Superb Bowl Buying Guide: So You Want to Buy a Bowl...

Maybe you were hunting recently and caught some big game. What better way to serve it than in a superb bowl? Or maybe you’re thinking of having soup. A bowl could surely come in handy for that as well. But you likely have a lot of questions about bowls, and what might make one a superb bowl over a regular bowl. This guide will help.

Why a Bowl Might Be Right for You

In essence, bowls are just like plates but with sides. This depth allows you to hold items of varying viscosities and sizes without worrying about making a big mess.  A bowl can support you throughout the day, from cereal for breakfast to soup for lunch, and even a punch bowl if you entertain at dinner time.

Of course, bowls can do more than serve food. You can mix food in them, too. You can also use a bowl to hold inedible items, like your keys or extra change — even loose buttons.

Sometimes you might wonder, “What can’t a bowl do?” And that’s why we think of every bowl as a superb bowl.

Superb Bowl Basics

You’ll notice that bowls come in a number of designs, sizes and materials, but one constant is the shape. Since you most likely will want to put something in your bowl, look for designs that don’t have holes. If there are a lot of holes, you might be looking at a strainer or colander, and neither of those is all that good at holding liquids.

Bowls come in just about every color, so you can find a bowl that will meet your aesthetic preferences or coordinate with your kitchen. Stainless steel bowls are often a favorite due to their shininess.

If you need more than one bowl, a set might be a good choice. You can buy nesting bowls that get progressively smaller and fit into each other, or a set of bowls that are all the same size. If you like, you can even find disposable bowls, which make clean-up a breeze.

Bowl Size: Small, Medium, Large?

The size of your bowl really depends on how you plan to use it. Small and medium bowls fit small and medium amounts of things, while large and super-sized bowls fit large items.

We suggest you purchase a variety of bowls, so you will always have what you need readily available. Nothing is sadder than a small scoop of ice cream in a super-sized bowl.
