With most laser printers (except HP), the toner and drum are separate pieces. Those who have had any experience with these products understand that; this is not to unfairly criticize those who haven't owned a laser printer in the past. As such, if the toner and drum were integrated, the cost for the device would be demonstrably more [$]Extrapolate that over the 10,000-page yield for this separate drum and by far you would be paying much more.Keep in mind that these printers (ink or dry toner) are profitable only through the purchase of the consumables – the ink and toner. While many protest about the cost for this particular item, try and calculate a one-year supply of ink for your inkjet-type printer. This is simply how HP, Brother and the rest keep the revenues pouring in.I'm enjoying this little wireless laser printer because it reduces my use of ink when printing draft letters and other large documents.

Brother needs to lower the price on this drum, it makes no sense that you can get a BRAND NEW Brother Hl-2140 printer for much cheaper which includes this same exact drum and starter toner and you are also get a brand new printer.

This item does not have any toner in it, it is just the base where the toner fits the printer, so it does not print a single page as it says on the description.

You think that you are getting toner with this cartridge. Wrong, all you get is a shell that fits the toner. It was more expensive than the printer itself!
This unit describes itself as yielding 12,000 pages BUT what it does not include is that there is no ink to perform such a job! It is ONLY the holder that houses the toner cartridge!
