Good printer at a good price

I use this printer for color work and printing business checks. I have a different monochrome Brother printer for everyday use.

I have been very happy with this printer except for two drawbacks. First, the optional sheet feeder takes only one sheet at a time. When I print checks, and if I have multiple checks to print, the optional feeder cannot be used. Additionally, the optional feeder does not align the check consistantly, causing poor printing alignment on the check. This leads to the other problem.

When you put multiple checks in the standard paper tray, you must first manually reverse the order of the checks. Because the checks must be put in the tray face down, it picks up the last check first. If you don't manually reverse the order of the checks, it will cause reversal of the check numbers.

I am very upset at the inability to use this printer in either wireless or w/ a USB cable. Having dealt with Staples in the past with non-performing products I know that dealing with them will be very difficult. I wasted hours on this printer trying to get it to work. I had some very important documents which were why I bought the printer & I was not able to print them.
I had terrible experiences trying to get a defective pencil sharpener replaced. they even told me that they had had problems with that model. They would not let me upgrade to a better sharpener using the return as credit. Instead, I got the same pencil sharpener & the same problems. I even wrote to Staples headquarters & no satisfaction.

I don't often post reviews, but have read mixed reviews so wanted to share my experience. I have found this Brother to be excellent and well worth the price. Considered HP, but decided this offered more of the features I wanted and have confidence from a prior Brother purchase that their quality is as good or better. Am using on my home wireless network with a MacBook Pro and PC Ultrabook. Plugged in, downloaded the updated software from the Brother website, took 15-20 minutes to set up, and unlike other wireless printers that have made my life miserable, this Brother just worked. I do not use for photos, but instead for business and personal documents. It is really easy to use and performs as advertised. And it works flawlessly with my iPhone and iPad AirPrint, which was an important feature for my needs. Highly recommended, which is an oxymoron when it comes to printers.

The quick start black cartridge went empty in about 100 sheets of printing and the cartridges are not cheap. I hope they last as long as they claim, or I won't be using the printer much.
