I recently ran into a problem with the printer saying that the toner was low and it would stop printing. It turns out the printer tries to figure out if the toner is low by looking through two little circular windows at the side of the toner cartridge, one on each side. IF you put tape over these, you can fool the printer into thinking you still have toner, which you in fact do! I've printed at least 200 more pages after it started signaling the end was near. Sometimes you have to take out the toner cartridge and shake it back and forth to redistribute the toner.

So I tried covering the windows on either side of the cartridge with tape as a previous user described...and it worked! Don't know how many more copies I'll get...but so far...so good...and copy quality is still perfect!

It's true, the toner dies out very early compared to most printers, but this can be fixed!! The cartridge isn't really empty when the printer says it is, so why trash it when there could still be a few hundred to a thousand pages left in it? Here's the trick...
There are two little round clear plastic windows on each side of the toner cartridge. The printer shines a light through these windows, and if it can't see through, the cartridge is full. When the light does pass through, it must be empty, but it isn't. It's just below the windows. Use black electrical tape or even black out both windows with a permanent marker. The printer will never tell you it's empty, and you can print until the pages are so light on toner that you really have to replace it. Hope this adds life, and saves money!

We have bought two of these printers for use with everyday document printing and printing of legal pleadings. We are very pleased with the quality of the print. The cartridges are very easy to change out and have good life for medium capacity printing.

I have tried out several different store brand toners for this printer, and none of them even hold a candle to the Brother brand toners. Brother's last longer and print clearer. It's worth the extra couple dollars, for sure!

I like this product, but the cartridge suddenly stopped printing when the red warning light went on, even though the printer was still producing excellent printouts. It seems there was still more "life" in the cartridge, but I was forced to replace it because the printer simply stopped working until it was replaced. This is my only complaint.
