I bought this for my wife who is going to school. Her text books are online, so she has to print them. We were going through so much paper and ink, so I decided to give laser printing a try. It was fairly easy to set up. [...with the exception of a faulty printer cable. There was no online help able to diagnose the cable, until I decided to swap it out with a new one.] It's worked great since. It's so much quiter than my ink jet printers. Printing at night no longer wakes us up.
I selected this over lower priced brands because of the replacement toner cartridge. The toner and drum is an all-in-one design, so I get a new drum each time I replace the toner cartridge. Some other machines you have to buy the seperatly. If the drum is not cleaned or replaced it may leave lines on the printed page--or worse, copies of the page printed just before it.
So far, we have had no problems other than the cable. I am glad we bought this one. It does what we need.

However if you need to fax or have color, you should look for a model with those features. This unit also does not have a document feeder, so you have to manually copy each page one by one. But again, it was an inexpensive model and the box never claims to do any of those things. It's an entry level laser printer with basic features. The most sophisticated item I like is the ability to duplex [print on both sides of the page] automatically. No need to flip the paper and insert it back into the printer to print on the other side.
