Once it's setup, the camera is easy to view either from my iOS devices or a web browser. I installed this within view of my front door so I could identify people ringing my doorbell. Its usefulness in this application is limited, since sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds to establish a connection to the camera through the mobile app. Once connected, daytime image quality is good--faces are identifiable, motion is smooth. Nighttime image (using the built in IR illuminator) is not the best I've seen, nor the worst--I'd call it marginal rather than bad.

Setup could have been smoother. The instructions don't tell you to use a computer that is connected to the network with a wired connection, but on my network that was the only way to get the installer to work. I tried both the Windows and Mac installation software, and neither would work until I plugged my computer into the network with a cable.

Once the camera is connected to the network, the web-based maintenance software is pretty good. One tip: When you're setting up the email or FTP settings to send footage (this can be setup on a schedule or with a motion trigger), be sure to click Save before you click Test after you enter your server information.

It works, sorta...

Setup was easy and the device connected to my network without much hassle. The low light capabilities of the camera are poor. Color viewing only occurs in bright daylight. Night vision is limited to about 8ft from the camera. As far as I can tell, there is no utility to allow direct viewing of the images, I can only see the camera output via the D-link web application. I find it annoying that every time I want to view the camera, I have to go to the web, sign in, wait for a D-link Java applet to be installed, and then I can view the images.

This is a awesome product, easily monitor your home from any pc, or smart phone. Easy wireless installation, and set-up, (not totally wireless, must have constant electrical connection, and cat 5 internet patch cable for initial wireless set-up).
Also great motion detection option that will send an e-mail, so you will know as soon as there is motion in your home.

I like the camera itself but I'm nnot happy you have to turn off User Account Control in Windows 7, to use DViewcam (which is the recording software). To me this is just like leaving my computer open to intruders, just like leaving my door open on my house. Otherwise it does what it says.

  No there are no audio whilest recording becasuse the use of audio or video equipment for recording the image of voice of a person without their knowledge and consent is prohibited in vertain states or jurisdictions. There is a time stamp and text overlay on the recording.

  Yes, it will, and you can also specify just how sensitive you wish it to be.
  Once set up, it can mail you with a frame of what it 'sees'. You can set up days of the week and times so it'll only mail when you are generally out, and you can also specify an interval time between frames to mail you with.

Will this product work with a tablet for it's wireless network needs or does it have to be set up with a PC?
