HP printers are great, but with this one, make sure to replace the regular cartridges first, these are more expensive to replace. I would recommend a different printer, but the replacements are great.

I purchased my 8500 All in one about two years ago. Now it's emptying the magenta cartridge into the bottom of the printer in about 1 minute. I've been told this is a printer head issue. Is that correct?

  It sounds like the print head is your issue, as they typically wear out after a year or so depending on the usage. To make sure that is the issue, I recommend you contact HP directly at (800) 752-0900. If you require further assistance, please call us at 800-333-3330.

My printer is saying that the following printhead has a problem. I took them out and wiped them off, still error msg. Do I need to replace them? My printer is about 1 yr old. I use it alot.

  Printheads last about 16,000 pages, ( your machine will send you a message)in other words every 10 to 12 times that you replace your 940XL InkJet cartridges you need to replace the printheads. I've tried to clean them out but it doesn't always work. . . I hope this would help a little!

  Printheads last about 16,000 pages each, you can try to clean them out but they don't always work. I buy compatible InkJet Cartridges but I still haven't been able to find compatible printheads for this machine. I guess is a matter of waiting a little before someone starts to make them.
