I've been an Outlook user for a very long time. Ever since it was part of the Microsoft Professional Office Suite. I've taught Outlook 2003 & used it for more than 10 years. Since MS discontinued support & I was starting to experience some errors, I decided to upgrade just the Outlook portion. I was surprised that when I rec'd my upgrade it contained no disk, but I had no problem downloading the file. Before I did the install, I did a system backup. It installed without a problem. I was up and running within minutes. The transition from 2003 to 2013 was not too bad, it took some getting use to the newer interface, but once I got it working the way I wanted it, I haven't looked back.

Windows has yet again made its operating system and software even more difficult rather than more user friendly. Using Windows 8 requires an email address just to set up a new computer. If you have a "free" email address through hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc., you can easily enter this information and continue with setting up your computer. THEN, if you want to purchase Outlook, as I did, and use it for your main email/calendar application YOU CAN'T SET UP OUTLOOK UNLESS YOU HAVE A PAID ACCOUNT THROUGH ONE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED PROVIDERS. That being said, Windows states that its the provider that makes this more complicated and THEY will not allow you to use Outlook without a paid account. To that I want to make 2 main points in this review:
1. I've used Outlook for several years and I've been able to use ANY email address I've ever had, whether it's free or not and/or from ANY provider.
2. Why would Windows even allow these providers to be a part of their Operating System or even let the user be able to initially setup the computer? If I can setup my machine with a "free" email address I should be able to use any and all of its applications or software.
Windows has only disappointed me yet again and it only justifies my my decision to pay a little more and switch to a MacBook 6 years ago and I've had no issues since. My advice to a lot of end users, private and businesses alike, do your homework before purchasing anything Windows. I think either would be much happier spending a little extra and avoiding all the issues/baggage that come along with a Windows PC.

Comments about Microsoft Outlook 2013 for Windows (1-User) [Product Key Card]:

I use Outlook 2013 for all my email and organizational work. I was used to Outlook 2003 and was reluctant to upgrade to 2013. I was forced to upgrade due to Microsoft disconyinuing support for Outlook 2003. I found that the upgrade was seemless. Outlook 2013 merged my data from 2003 flawlessly. I was able to use Staples price match guarantee and purchase my copy of Outlook for less than Staples price. I am very pleased with Outlook 2013. I wish Microsoft had built into Outlook 2013 more ability to change the color schemes and to be able to personalize the program a bit more.
