What is the purpose of a multi-line phone system if you can't use two handsets at the same time? We purchased this phone along with one of the cordless handsets to use in our store. However, if one of the phones is in use, the other one can not be used to answer an incoming call on another line. I called customer service to see if it was not set-up correctly, and I was told that the phone was not capable of multi-line use by more than one handset at the same time. The additional cordless handset is to provide "mobility only." This would be excellent if only one person had to use the phone, but what's the point of a 4-Line phone with just one person using it? It would have been nice to know this before-hand. Hope this review helps someone else before they find themselves having to find a replacement and return a phone with very little functionality.

I have 3 lines and could not get this to work. [...]sent me another one that also did not work. If you want to use more than two lines, YOU have to buy a coupler. I bought one from [...]and it seems fine, but the phone does not detect a second line in that coupler. This thing does not like more than 2 lines! It does NOT work as advertised, don't buy this!

I have been a professional phone installer in the past and I rate this product quite highly. People who say it can't work on multiple lines at once should be clear that that is only a cordless problem. We use our system, with four stations, on multiple lines all the time. I agree the cordless phone is very poor, with poor connection quality. But lets be real, it's a value priced phone multiplexing on a single pair. It does what's it's designed to do very well. If you have realistic expectations, you will love this phone.

This phone is wonderful. The intercom on the phone works great. The design is beautiful. The way it is angled allows you to see who is calling. The caller id lights up. BUT I purchased the additional cordless and it does not allow you to be on the base phone at the same time as the cordless. I truly do not get the reason of doing this. It is a business phone so if I am on the phone and it rings you can not pick it up from the additional cordless phone. It is a four line phone so I just do not understand why RCA would make a cordless that you could not use just like other cordless phones.

This phone has a feature that allows you to add up to 16 handsets using the same phone number. The problem is this feature rendered the phone useless in the setting where it was needed.

My company holds board meetings at remote locations such as hotels because board members come from all over PA. Sometimes we have to phone missing board members or other key players during our meetings. (A cell phone just doesn't quite cut it). Because of the "up to" 16 handsets feature on this phone, it would not work at the hotel at all because there are more than 16 handsets there. (think about it -- one handset in each hotel room) It just sat there looking for a handset ID but could not find one because, according to the manual, there was more than 16 handsets hooked up to the hotel phone number. Because it could not find a handset ID, we could not even get a dial tone to call into our own toll-free number to make our calls.

I wanted and needed a phone with a clear speaker so that everyone in the room could hear and be heard by whoever is on the other line. But because everything has to be over complicated these days, the phone could not be used at all and I had to return it.

The Staples salespeople did not know about or understand this feature/limitation and could not advise me on a different phone to purchase instead. We are still looking.
