Great ergonomic computer desk

The measurements on the desk were just what I was looking for - but I needed an ergonomic computer desk.
My solution was to purchase a keyboard arm and tray to mount instead of the included slide-out drawer and not install the two drawers on one side of the desk. I used the left over hardware to add two shelves (I extended the existing bottom shelf and added one up high) which hold my desktop computer, UPS and work laptop.
I added a two-monitor arm to the front of the desk and cut out part of the side panel for ventilation for the computers. To cover up the ventilation hole I used the larger of the unused drawer panels and replaced the center with an die-cut aluminum sheet.
Took about 6 hours to assemble including customizations. Nice thick MDF construction makes it easy and it feels like it will last forever. Now to put a clear sealer on top to reduce finger prints...

A functional desk with a caveat

This Sauder desk is well-engineered, but it is a complex assembly process and not all of the pre-drilled holes were drilled to the proper depth, especially the holes for the feet (part Y, step 5) and the molding pieces (parts W and V, Step 15). It took incredible effort with a phillips screwdriver to seat the screws properly. Sauder cautions against using an electric drill, but I was very tempted to use one during those assembly steps. In step 21, there was one screw, part AAA, missing, so one of the large drawer fronts has three instead of four screws holding it in place. After finishing the assembly I noticed three small dents in the finished surface of the desktop. The desktop lies face down in the bottom of the carton with no protection between the cardboard carton and and top surface of the desktop. My guess is that the dents occurred during shipping and handling. The larger concern is that the desktop shows every fingerprint and smudge. It would cost me half as much as I paid for the desk to have a glass top cut for it, so I will live with the fingerprints, smudges and dents as this is my classroom desk and not a piece of furniture in my home. In conclusion, this desk is functional, complex to assemble, shows every fingerprint and would be a much better product with a more appropriate and durable final finish.

Complaining about the assembly process is like going to a buffet and complaining that you have to get the food yourself. Its reflected in the price, if you don't want to put in a little sweat equity go by a preassembled desk and spend more money. DON'T complain about the labor involved when you spending a couple hundred bucks for what I think is a good product. It does take a little time to put together, but well worth the end product in relation to the price.

It is bulky so you do need an adequate room to put the desk in. I love it! It is heavy and the drawers are a great size for storage and hanging files. Would definitely recommend this product.

This desk is much better quality than the matching lateral files. Everyone who sees it in my home office thinks it was expensive. I love the size of the table top.

  The diagram at the Staples site shows measurements. The pull out keyboard drawer supports 15 lbs, is 28" side to side and 14" deep. It would not support a standard size laptop, it may support a standard size net book. The product photo shows a laptop on the desk top.

  This desk does not have a matching hutch and in all likelihood is not intended for one, but Staples carries other desks and hutches that are compatible, such as the Altra Chadwick collection which has a corner desk or an L-shaped desk that can be used with a matching hutch.

Does this product have a nice looking back to it; by that I mean not just a flimsy piece of particle board covering the back side of the desk? I don't want to put this up against a wall and the back of the desk will be facing the entrance of the office, so it needs to look nice. Thanks
