Point-of-sale paper, or POS paper, allows for the printing of clear and easy-to-read receipts in customer-based industries like banks, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, and shops. Different types and sizes
POS roll paper comes in a variety of sizes, including the most common widths of 3 1/8 inches and 2 1/4 inches. It rolls out to a length of 70 meters or more. The varying designs fit into various printing devices. For example, two-part terminal rolls fit into printing calculators or credit machines, and thermal paper rolls fit into cash registers. Most receipt rolls also come with a stripe placed 3 to 4 inches from the end. This stripe acts as a warning to indicate when it is time to replace the roll. 

Ease of use
POS paper rolls come in lightweight and small designs that allow for easy installation and removal from printers. Thermal printers, credit card machines, and cash registers do not require traditional paper and ink to print. Receipt paper comes with a chemical coating on the surface, allowing it to create clear images and numbers under the heated printer head. Receipt paper does not require a ribbon or cartridge to print. Thermal paper comes with a heat-sensitive coating that enables inkless printing. 

Additional paper qualities
POS paper comes in colors such as white, pink, or blue. White remains the most common choice. Receipt paper rolls come with an additional option that allows customization of the receipts, for example, through branding. POS paper also comes as a 100 percent lint-free paper, which helps reduce printer jams.

What is the average shelf life?
With proper storage, POS paper lasts for about three years from the date of manufacture. Thermal paper requires darkness, temperatures below 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and humidity between 45 and 65 percent to give satisfactory performance. Once printed, receipt papers remain clear and legible for up to seven years with proper filing. 

Is there eco-friendly paper?
Some receipt paper rolls come in an eco-friendly design. Some are free of bisphenol A (BPA) and others are phenol-free. This means they do not contain harmful or toxic chemicals that could seep into the skin after prolonged use. They still offer clear, legible, and quality printing.

How many rolls are in a pack?
POS paper comes in a variety of packs dependent on need. Some packs come with as little as three rolls for regular use in a small business, while bulk packages carry up to 50 rolls for high-traffic customer-based establishments.
