There are a few things to consider before choosing a Pilot Precise V5 pen, including:

• Do you want a capped or retractable pen?
• What tip size do you want? Choose from 0.5mm, 0.7mm, or a 1.0mm size tip.
• Do you want a refillable pen? If so, the Pilot Precise RT is the best option.
• Is pen longevity important to you? You may want to go with a V5 instead of a V7, because the larger point of the V7 will release more ink, cutting down on its lifespan.

The primary difference between a Pilot Precise V5 versus a V7 is the size of the pen tip. While both are considered fine point pens, the V5 has a 0.5mm tip, and the V7 has a 0.7mm tip. Tip size plays a distinct part in the lettering the pen produces. A finer tip, like the V5, will result in thinner lines, whereas the V7 tip will produce a heavier, thicker line, though not as thick as ballpoint pens. Choosing between the two is simply a matter of your style preference.

The standard Pilot Precise pen cannot be refilled, but the Pilot Precise RT pen is refillable. The Pilot Precise RT is also retractable, not capped. If you prefer to refill the ink instead of purchasing a new pen, you’ll want to go with the Precise RT.
