Polyester, like nylon, is a synthetic fabric and is spun into a thread from a chemical solution. While nylon is inherently tougher than polyester, the weave tightness of the fabric is the true measure of its strength and durability.

Many polyester backpacks have a weave rating of 600 denier, meaning the number of threads as thick as silk that are woven into one square inch of fabric. Polyester weaves of 600 denier in backpacks are common, including textured polyester dobby and jacquard. Thus polyester backpacks are quite strong and resilient, resistant to stretching or shrinking and are abrasion and wrinkle resistant. The tight weave also makes them quick-drying, so they are mildew resistant, and the polyester fabric itself is UV-resistant.

Are Polyester Backpacks Waterproof?
No backpack is totally waterproof since the openings in any fabric weave would have to be smaller than the water molecules themselves. However, polyester backpack material is resistant to moisture, and many times has a water-repellent coating as well.

Can Polyester Backpacks Store as Much Material as Others?
There is little limit on how much polyester backpacks can store, except the sheer size of the pack itself. And since they're lightweight, you can have a larger backpack in polyester than with other fabrics. The polyester backpack has all the storage compartments and closure arrangements that any other backpack has, including outer and inner sleeves and pockets, with zippered, Velcro or drawstring closures. Many of the backpacks also have reinforced bottoms, heavily stitched seams and padded backs and shoulder straps for carrying comfort.

Yes. Many different styles of poly backpacks are designed specifically for carrying laptops securely. These backpacks have bumpered and reinforced corners and textured or knobbed compartment weaves to protect them from impacts. Polyester backpacks typically hold screen sizes from 14 to 17 inches, plus many also have protective inner compartments for tablets.
