Bags, Backpacks & Luggage

Organize and carry everything you need at the office with a briefcase bag. There are different types and sizes ranging from slim folder-style folios to travel-ready backpacks. Besides office workers and professionals, these carrying cases are also essential supplies for students. Check the large selection of bags and briefcases at Staples to find the right unit for work or school.

Choose from different types of work bags
Briefcases and handbags are two common types found in business and professional offices. Select one that’s big enough to fit a laptop or tablet as well as files, notebooks, pens, and essential accessories such as chargers and headphones. Users can also opt for bags with dedicated padded compartments for laptops. For a slimmer case with fewer compartments, opt for a laptop sleeve. Padfolios are like zippered binders. They double as organizers and are ideal for carrying tablets and have pockets for notepads and business cards.

Besides handles, briefcases may also have shoulder straps. Users who prefer straps may consider messenger bags. These have long, single straps that go across the chest. Backpacks have two straps used for carrying them on the back. School and college backpacks are useful for students. These units can carry school supplies, and bigger ones may double as laptop backpacks. Choose a rolling backpack to carry heavy loads and/or for use as a travel bag. This has wheels so users can pull them along.

Key features to consider when shopping for briefcase bags and backpacks
Size, storage space, and materials are the three most important factors to consider when comparing different carrying cases. Find a model that can fit everything you take to work or school. Brands usually offer laptop bags and backpacks by screen sizes. Pick a unit that’s at least a size bigger than the laptop meant for it. Besides size, the amount of available interior space depends on bag shape, thickness of the padding, and number of compartments.

Materials commonly used for these classes of carrying cases include leather and faux leather as well as natural and synthetic fabrics. Leather is a supple, premium material used for high-end briefcases and handbags. Faux leather is a more affordable option that looks like leather. Fabric options include canvas, nylon, and polyester. Synthetic materials like Cordura are also available for backpacks. They’re very durable and waterproof. Mesh is also a material option for bags and backpacks. Mostly used in back panels and side pockets, mesh is more breathable than other materials and keeps users cool.

What is an attache case?
This is a classic briefcase with a hard shell. Unlike soft briefcases, users can set it down without propping it against a wall or piece of furniture. An attache briefcase bag is best for very formal workplaces such as government and executive offices.

What is the difference between a tote and handbag?
A hand or shoulder bag has one strap while a tote has two straps. Generally, shoulder work bags have more compartments, including pockets and zippered sections. Totes were originally single-compartment bags with no exterior or interior pockets. However, there are now totes with one or more pockets.

How do you pick a comfortable work bag?
When shopping for a duffle or messenger bag, look for a unit with an adjustable strap. With this, the user can wear the carrying case closely or leave it dangling as needed. Comfortable laptop bags and backpacks also need padded straps. These straps help distribute weight evenly when carrying heavy loads.
