Throughout the workday, it’s common for people to leave their desks to grab a drink of water. Instead of relying on the tap, many companies have water coolers in place that dispense both hot and cold drinks for employees. Water dispensers are not only places where people can grab a refreshing beverage, they are also social settings where individuals can catch up with their coworkers who are also waiting to quench their thirst. Water cooler dispensers have a lot to offer, so keep reading to learn more about them!

How Should You Use a Water Cooler?

Water coolers dispense clean, purified water quickly and easily. All you have to do in order to get your drink is ensure that the tank is full, then take your glass and place it under the dispensing spout. Many models of water dispensers have both hot and cold spouts.

Always be sure to monitor the water as it fills up your cup so it does not overflow. When it is filled to the desired level, simply return the spout back to its original locked position. If water does overflow, just make sure to wipe off the drip tray.

How Do You Clean Water Coolers?

It’s important to ensure that your water cooler stays clean to avoid any dirt and contaminants that could build up and affect the quality of your beverages. Individual cleaning methods will vary based on the type of water dispenser you have, but be sure to follow these best practices to keep your water cooler functioning properly:

  • Do a deep clean every 6 months with a cleaning solution or a solution of water and white distilled vinegar in a 3:1 ratio.
  • As you’re deep cleaning, be sure to add in a replacement water filter as this is generally the timeframe when they need to be replaced.
  • Remove and clean the drip tray frequently, making sure to wipe up any residue that may have collected there. Checking the drip tray regularly also ensures that there are no leaks present.
  • Wipe down the surface with a disinfecting or antibacterial wipe. This not only keeps your water cooler looking clean, but prevents bacteria build-up as well.

How Does a Water Dispenser Work?

Most water coolers work via an inverted bottle that is placed at the top. Once the bottle has been positioned properly, the seal that keeps the water in the tank is broken, allowing the liquid to flow into the water cooler dispenser. The water is controlled by a valve inside the cooler which ensures that it does not freely flow, only dispensing when prompted by adjusting the spout.

When water is not being dispensed, it is held in a reservoir, which is kept at a cool temperature thanks to a refrigerant. The refrigerant is a cooling agent that works to ensure the water dispenses at an ideal temperature.
