Each midweight sheet is crafted with care to obtain that perfect paper texture and provide a sturdy foundation for multiple washes and layers without warping or buckling. For those of you nerdy enough to know better, our paper is 90lb/185gsm (which means the pre-cut “ream” of full-size sheets weighs 90 pounds and a single sheet of one square meter weighs 185 grams). All of this just means Canson XL watercolor paper has good absorbency and strength. So, go at it with bright colors, gradients, and detailed strokes, and even mix things up with gouache or acrylic paint for a mixed media effect. The Canson XL Series was created with students and teachers in mind – affordable, high-sheet count options with an intermediate-level performance sufficient for technical practice and showcases. Once artists are confident enough in their skillset, we recommend transitioning over to the Canson Artist Series family of paper for a museum-quality look and feel.
