It's Ink
Forged in the fires of Mount Doom from unicorn tears and legitmate Republican sympathy (the rarest of ingredients). It costs more than gold. But it works... Pretty sure this is what Rage Against the Machine was singing about. "Printing In The Name Of".

replacing 3 cartridges
I replaced 3 cartridges easily but now cannot
replace the big black cartridge from my
last purchase. I cannot print black because the ink is over 6 months old and nothing
prints. I wish the directions were easier to follow to remove a partially filled cartridge.

Canon support and online ordering helped me in out of ink situation.
I ran out of ink during an important situation requiring printing and faxing. I thought I purchased the correct ink from a local box store then found it would not work. Yellow was empty in a new unopened package!
How frustrating! I went through the trouble and expense of installing each cartridge until the final yellow one. As soon as I put it in, the printer refused to work insisting that yellow was empty. More downtime for me and additional cost of ordering a single yellow cartridge. No fun especially when working from home.
