That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying - The XL versions of the color cartridge will last longer. Hi Judy I am sorry that you didn't get a cartridge that worked for you. I can understand if you're upset. There are different types of printers. This type has much different cartridges than a lot of the other HP printers. Because the printer uses separate color cartridges (rather than a tri-color one) you need to have a cartridge in each cartridge slot and each cartridge needs to have some ink in it.
