HP 962XL Cartridge
The cost difference is about 1 cent per page printed between the HP 962 and the HP 962XL.
The firmware in the HP 9010 will NOT use anything but HP cartridges which are, in my opinion over priced and instant ink offering from HP is not an option for me.

Wrong ink in box!
I purchased HP 962XL Magenta in store. When I opened the box, it was a completely different product inside the box.
Staples won't help refund/replace/return the item because I opened the box. Obviously, I had to open the box to see that the ink was wrong inside.

Do you want excellence, buy HP inks. They are expensive but worth it.

I bought a new magenta cartridges because the color on the printer reading said out of ink. Replaced the cartridge and printer still said out of ink. Returned a second time for another new magenta cartridge. Still had the out of ink sign on the printer. Result: there was a HP printer problem. So lost 2 new cartridges!!

buy in store, pay a premium for it.
I also ordered the same thru Staples on-line which was $7.00 cheaper than the store. But I needed the replacement at that monent so I bought one at the store and paid $7.00 more. I doubt I'll shop in the store again.

Ink cartridge experience
Printed a copy of last year's diary. The text is in red. Ran out the magenta cartridge. Received the new cartridge and installed it. 'Magenta' and several more, "Out of Ink". That was with the original four cartridges. Had the four replacements that were sent earlier. After an hour or so swapping cartridges I stumbled on a combination that worked.
