We have many quality checks in place to make sure every product is safe and effective, so this isn't something we'd expect to see. However, if the soap isn't completely rinsed off, or if the dishes have become porous, it is possible for taste to be left over. If certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous and should be washed by hand. However, we do know hard water and other factors may sometimes have an effect on cleaning performance. To get the best possible results, we suggest making sure that the water is hot enough and that the water pressure isn't too low. You may also want to try a longer or heavier cycle. Our commercial is just a humorous way to remind folks that the dishwasher is designed to help you save water and energy. In fact, according to Energy Star, a certified dishwasher uses 80% less water and 26% less energy on average when it's half full than when washing dishes by hand.
