If certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous and should be washed by hand. It might help to know that cast iron and plastic items can absorb flavors. We're so sorry to read about your recent Cascade experience, especially since we quality-test each of our detergents to ensure they give your dishes a wonderful clean. While wouldn't expect Cascade to impart the scent of the product onto food, if the soap isn't completely rinsed off, or if the dishes have become porous, it's possible this can happen. Should certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous and may need to be washed by hand. Cast iron and plastic items, for example, can more easily absorb flavors. Don't soak these items, though; wash them immediately and rinse completely. We do offer Cascade Free & Clear which has a light scent, and it may be the best option for you. To remove the taste/smell, we recommend soaking your non-porous dishes in hot water with some distilled white vinegar added to it. You should also check the dishwasher sprayer arms to make sure they're not clogged. And to ensure your dishwasher is rinsing properly, place a cup or mug on the top rack right side up, so it can collect water. Then run a dishwasher cycle. The cup/mug should be filled with water at the end of the cycle. If it isn't, it's an indicator that your dishwasher isn't rinsing properly. Due to the extensive quality testing our products go through to ensure optimal performance, it is very rare for our Pacs not to dissolve. There are several reasons why this could happen, and we'd like to share some helpful information. One of the biggest tips is verifying that there's free movement of the sprayer arms, and that the washer is getting adequate pressure. Additionally, water temperature should not be below 120 degrees Fahrenheit. To help ensure the dishwasher receives hot water immediately upon starting, run hot water at the kitchen sink before starting the dishwasher. Low water pressure can also impact the dishwasher's performance. We recommend running the dishwasher when other household water demands, like showers or laundry, are not in use. This will help ensure that an adequate amount of water is available for the washing process.
