Fast, easy, and fun
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I am an amateur sewer and mostly sew by hand to mend shirts, pants, etc. It has been many years since I used a sewing machine. However I followed the instructions and everything worked perfectly. I think this machine would be perfect for a beginner but good enough for ...

Be warned!
Looks nice but missing DVD that was supposed to be included to facilitate setting up the unit.
Illustrations too small and unable to show details.
(Ie: Self threading unclear and unable to follow instructions.)
Have spoken to representatives twice and was assured that a DVD would be sent, but it’s been a month and nothing has been received.

Junk!
It stopped sewing, I was told under warranty by Brother but turns out it’s not. Only one year and I’ve had it 18 months. Junk!

My old machine lasted me 15yrs +
I've owned a brother machine back in 2008. I had it clear up until last year. The fact that that machine lasted me over 15 years before I had to get a new one, is phenomenal. In the process of preparing my machine., the features made sewing more enjoyable. Also, the instructions educational.

Great for beginners
I am very new to sewing and this was the perfect machine for me! I’m mainly making small accessories and clothing items. I haven’t worked with anything thicker than a few layers of fleece so I can’t say if it is good with denim and other heavy duty fabrics, but it handles everything I’ve worked with very nicely so far.
It’s super beginner friendly with a lot of useful ...

A REAL REVIEW
I like my SM3701. I have used it for minor sewing such as hemming up jeans and shirts and jacket pockets and pillow cases and a few other little things. I am a 69 years old male and this is my second sewing machine. I had trouble threading the needle and sewing with my old machine but not this one. The only con i have is the foot peddle not reacting to the applied press...

To Purchase or Not Purchase
This is a good little machine as it is fairly easy to transport and take with me to sewing club. There is a good variety of stitches that can be used for various projects. A handy dandy little lady.

Sm3701 Brother Sewing Machine
We purchased this sewing machine! It skips stitches very easily. We checked and cleaned everything, that doesn’t help. Have to take it to a shop to have it looked at. Per Brother

Awesome little machine!
I had a Riccar machine for over 40 years, ended up not able to get parts, tried a Brother sewing machine, and have not regretted it since! Does the job and then some!

Great for Beginners.
Great for beginners! As a “Never touched Sewing machine in my life” beginner. I picked this one up and have loved every bit of it. The included DVD was great to truly learn all the features. I have been trying different patterns and stitches and this has made it a breeze! I love the simplicity of this machine.

Very nice machine
This sewing machine is very easy to use, has lots of bells and whistles (that i still need to learn). It's a great starter machine for anyone interestes in sewing. The auto needle threader isnt the easiest and takes time to figure out. Took me many tries to get it right. But overall, great buy.

Happy Customer!
I love my Brother SM3701 sewing machine...I have have not had one problem with it! It has been easy to understand the steps in learning how to use it! An Amish friend gave me a little instruction along with a neighbor friend...that was so nice of them.

Very good basic machine for general use
light and easy to handle, found it more difficult to get apparent stitch results even after reading manual and watching video. operation otherwise was quite good.

Great for newbies
This is my first sewing machine. The instruction manual is really helpful and I'm slowly getting better! I would recomend it for beginners, especially because of the needle-threader and quick-set bobbin.

Great machine for newbie!
I learned how to sew years ago, and about a month ago, I finally picked it back up again with the purchase of this machine. I’ve been working with cottons, flannels, and minky. I’ve used several stitches and been very happy with how they turned out. I’ve done one project with a zipper and just bought a container of buttons, so we will see how that goes!
