Expensive ink.
One would expect the XXL black ink cartridge to be a more economical purchase than an XL ink cartridge, but there is no data provided by Canon to support that expectation. Granted, it's hard to define exactly how many pages can be expected from a cartridge, because it depends on how many characters will be on the page, are they printed in bold type, etc.
