This definitely is not the experience we have intended, and we are glad you have reached out. While success may vary depending on the severity of the cracks, you can try repairing any cracking that has occurred on your Air-Dry Clay sculpture, place a few drops of water on the cracks and try smoothing with your fingers. You may also try filling in the crack with a small amount of wet clay and smooth with your fingers. It is understandable why your son's experience has been disappointing. We, too, are disappointed to learn that his project made with Air-Dry Clay had cracked in some places. This definitely is not the quality you would expect from Crayola, and your feedback will be passed along to our Compound Team. There are several reasons why it may crack. Air Dry Clay will shrink slightly as it dries. If the Air Dry Clay is wrapped around a rigid support or armature, the clay gradually becomes smaller in size as it dries and the rigid piece remains the same size causing cracks. If you feel an armature is practical or necessary, it is best to choose one that allows a small amount of "give" such as crumpled aluminum foil.
