Disappointing
I would suspect this cable should work according to its description, but unfortunately I hooked it up and my computer would not read the hard drive... very disappointing. I had to take my drive to a computer shop and pay over $50 to retrieve two things I needed. The shop had a stronger cable that provided power to the hard drive. I don't think this one does that to the ...

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. USB3S2SAT3CB is designed for use with 2.5" (laptop size) HDD / SSD (most). Due to the 5V power limitation of the USB host, it cannot be used with 3.5" (desktop size) drives or drives that require more than 5V. Brandon, StarTech.com Support

Functional
After using this, I can say that it works exactly as it should. Transfer speeds are fine, and it had no issues while being used to clone drives. The product feels very high quality, and has a nice, dim indicator light to see if the drive is being used. The cable is a reasonable length, and the connections feel solid. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs...

Completely disappointed
Item did not fit securely into my drive. Was not able to connect it at all. When I went to return it I was told I was outside the 14 day limit—which in the time of pandemic ought to be relaxed. So not able to return not able to use. Expensive piece of electronic recycling.

Very Good investment!
Most USB to Notebook enclosures are USB2.1 are slow when there is USGB 3.0 cards and PCs like what Kingston offers with their SSDs. That era is over with me. I do a lot of copy work between partitions in the 50 GB + range as I briefly get at best about 12 MB per second for a minute or so and drips down to 7 MB/sec. I do not want to spend several days when I can copy...

What I thought.
As I had already fabricated my own adapter cables successfully I wondered if there was a commercial product available. There was the StarTech setup which serves for 2.5" and Micro-drives but not for larger PC drives such as HDD drives and CD/DVD/BD drives. Just not enough power available from the USB ports. Startech USB 3.0 to Sata III hard drive.
This cable was used to recognize an external SSD for cloning. I had an older Apricorn conversion kit which did not recognize the SSD.

Awesome
Since my all in one desktop fried out on me 6 years ago Ive been using my laptop. I didnt have a need to get anything more. I kept the hard drive from that computer in hopes to retrieve the pictures and videos. I bought this and was able to get right into it! So easy to just move my stuff onto my laptop

Did exactly what I needed done
This cable allowed me to transfer photos & documents from an old hard drive onto a new laptop quickly and painlessly...and now that I have the cable I can use the old hard drive as an external storage device if I wish. This cable gives me just what I needed.

Recovered Laptop Drive with this device
StarTech 8.3 USB 3.0 to 2.5 SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable W/UASP/SATA to USB3.0 Converter helped me recover data from a laptop hard drive for which the laptop screen had failed. Worked perfectly. Very happy. Nominal investment for which I gained huge returns in time and value.
