What type of time tracking system do you need?
Time clock
Ideal for: Tracking employees’ time and attendance. Can also be used to record when important documents are received, sent out, filed, etc.
Key features:
- Most models offer a variety of print formats. Basic models print date and time. More advanced time clocks offer up to 25 print formats including day of the week and military time.
- In addition to printing date and time, some time clocks will also print preset document control messages, such as RCVD, SENT, IN, OUT, CMFD, FILED, PAID.
- Select models calculate payroll totals on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.
- Models that feed cards from the top (rather than the side) help eliminate user error, as card alignment is not required.
- Some models automatically adjust for leap year, daylight savings, and short months.
- A time clock equipped with a battery backup will maintain its set program and correct time during power failures.
- Most time clocks offer a wall or table mount option. Some models also have a heavy–duty lock to prevent tampering.
Accessories: Time cards and replacement print ribbons sold separately.
Badge-based system
Ideal for: Tracking employees’ time and attendance with reusable, magnetic badge cards that your staff swipes when coming in and leaving work.
Key features:
- Small wall panel that can track between 100 and 120 employees, depending on the model. Typically comes with 50 reusable badges. Additional badges sold separately.
- Large screen displays day, date, and time. Some models will also display employee’s name with punch–in and punch–out time.
- Stand–alone models come with a built–in 80–column printer. Others must be connected to your PC to print reports.
- Most systems automatically total employee work–hours including overtime and calculate payroll totals on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.
- Some models automatically adjust for leap year, daylight savings, and short months.
- A time clock equipped with a battery backup will maintain its set program and correct time during power failures.
Tip: Remember that your employees will take their lead from you – if you routinely arrive late, they may follow suit.
