This is my favorite pen. Ever. It is definitely worth the money. It's the sort of pen that does what it is supposed to do, but then adds that extra something that makes you happy to be using it. I bought one of these to make up enough for free shipping and, I will admit, out of curiousity. The ink is a heavier flow than other Pilot fountain pens. If you want an everyday fountain pen or are trying them out before you purchase an expensive, high quality fountain pen, I recommend one with replaceable cartridges. Pilot's "Preppy" has a thin line, so it uses less ink. My favorite is the "Petit1", great if you have small hands. You can get either online or if you are lucky enough to have a Japanese book store near you.

I first found the Varsity disposable fountain pen several years ago and have used nothing else since. We now order them by the box.
In my mind, it's equal to a pen costing much, much more -- and unlike those, you won't feel bad if you lose it!
Like all fountain pens, it gives cursive writing a distinctive, elegant look, especially signatures. I use it with a Reporter's Notebook for note-taking, and I've found it very comfortable to use over the long haul (my hand does not get tired, unlike with other pens) and extremely long-lasting. There's even a window so you can see how much ink remains in the cartridge.

Learning to write with a fountain pen, I was ruined for life - I found I LIKED to write. That meant either (1), spending a lot of money on a good pen between two and twelve times a year; or (2), doing something I loved (writing) with something I disliked (a wretched ballpoint or a pitiful old Schaeffer "cartridge" pen); or (3), learn to soullessly type. Settling on (2), writing became a chore. I was shattered. *sigh** Then there arrives the Pilot Varsity. I find myself writing letters LONGHAND again! I have been saved! Why? Because, for [$], the Pilot Varsity is simply EVERYTHING a fountain pen should be! Pilot has formed the nib on the Varsity so that it does not catch on rough or even on poorly finished paper. That means the point does not stutter: and thus, it does not skip or spatter. The Varsity's ink-flow is perfectly coordinated with each writer's cadence or rhythm - should you stop writing for even a few seconds, not lifting pen from paper, there is no ink "pool" formed on the paper at the tip of the nib, typical of many, even some of the most expensive, fountain pens. Further, the inks dry precisely when and where they should - always ON the paper and WELL BEFORE the next letter or two is complete (so there is no smearing), and NEVER on the nib (so there is no clogging!). If there is a fault here, it might be in the weight or balance of the pen. To me, the ever-so-slightly-more than feather-like weight, and the trivially uneven distribution of that weight, is perfectly marvelous. Requiring virtually no pressure at all to write with, there is no subsequent hand or finger fatigue, and it is thus a joy to use. However, one writer I was trying to convert found the weight and balance so insignificant that she "had the off-putting feeling that nothing was in her hand." Ahh, such is life. Even some people who don't like the physical mechanics of writing find they like to slow down and watch their words form, that writing might be FUN with a fountain pen! CONVERTS! This is a simply wonderful pen. Try it.

Yeah! I found disposable fountain pens...I can share the joy with a young person who is taking Latin. Somehow the two go together.I would like to find one that has aqua ink, however. That was always my favorite color.[...]
