Adding machine paper rolls provide a hard copy of financial calculations. They work in a variety of different machines and come in several different sizes and packages. Staples® carries a selection of POS paper and other office supplies for enhanced record keeping.

Considerations for Adding Machine Paper Rolls
Finding the right adding machine rolls depends primarily on the type of machine used. There are two main types of adding machine paper. Thermal rolls use a special paper that is coated with a chemical. When heated, the paper changes color. This paper works in thermal printers and in many adding machines, credit card terminals, and cash registers. The coating usually turns black but sometimes it may be red or blue. Traditional adding machine paper works like typing paper in regular adding machines.

Adding machine paper may be single-ply or two-ply. Single-ply paper prints a single sheet, while two-ply paper delivers an original print and a copy, which is useful when handing out receipts or when keeping two copies of records.

Using Adding Machine Paper Rolls in Daily Tasks
Adding machine rolls are common in Point of Sale (POS) systems that require copies of cash register receipts, credit card machine transactions, and copies of adding machine tape. Most credit card machines and POS systems use thermal paper. If a machine requires the use of an ink ribbon, it uses bond or regular paper.

Most machines require a specific width of paper roll. Check with the manufacturer of your specific machine to get the correct size. The correct paper size ensures accurate operation and a perfect fit.

How Do Thermal Adding Machine Paper Rolls Work?
Thermal paper is thick and sturdy with three separate layers. The top layer is the outside of the paper, which looks like normal copy paper. The bottom layer features a variety of starches and salts that transmit the heat from the depressed numbers or letters on an electronic device to the paper. The center layer is the active layer, which reacts with the heat to produce color. Some thermal paper rolls have an extra coating that prevents the color from fading over time, which is ideal for long-term storage of records.

Can You Buy Adding Machine Paper Rolls in Bulk?
Adding machine paper often comes in small packages of five, which is ideal for home offices or a small office without heavy printing needs. For large companies and retail establishments, adding machine paper is available in cartons of up to 100 pieces. For home use, you can buy some rolls by the piece.

What Are the Benefits of Using Thermal Adding Machine Paper Rolls?
Thermal paper does not require the use of messy inks or ink refills which can result in additional costs. When you apply heat to thermal paper the result is sharp and clear images that are easy to read, which is important in industries where accuracy is a must like healthcare testing and banking. Thermal machines are faster, more reliable and durable, and produce lasting output.
