Create a Filing System
In the hanging file system, file folders are placed inside larger hanging files within cabinets, drawers, or boxes. Alternatively, recycled file folders can be placed directly onto shelves or inside file boxes. Once you've chosen your storage method, deciding on a folder size is the next step. Letter and legal-sized file folders are the two general options. Both are available in standard 3/4" sizes or expandables that can handle larger files.

Orient the Files
Once you've chosen the size of your recycled file folders and hanging files, the next step is determining the tab position so that your files will be easy to find when you need them.
