Tax Exempt Certificate Expiration
Our Tax Department sends mail notification 3 months prior to your certificate expiry. This notification gives you clear direction on what to do if you wish to renew your tax exemption with Staples. To guarantee that your organization receives this notification, please ensure you contact us in the event of a change in address.
Your Tax Rate
The tax rate your order was charged is based on state regulations. In most states the address of where you are receiving the order determines the rate.  A select number of states require Staples to charge tax based on where the item shipped from or Staples’ place of business. The rate will display as a combined rate of the state, city, county, district levels. You may get charged the incorrect tax rate if there is even a small discrepancy in your address. If your county code (the number following your 5-digit zip code) is incorrect, you may still get your order, but you may be charged the incorrect tax rate. Staples leverages a third-party tax calculation engine that determines the tax rate, in some instances the software calculates the rate incorrectly. Please always refer to your Order Confirmation email for your actual tax amount details, as staples.com only provides an estimated tax amount during checkout.
Note: If you feel your order was charged tax incorrectly, please contact us at 1-800-611-4060 and we will review the order and your current tax status with Staples.
