Very confusing and hard to use for playing CDs/DVD
I bought this item after the store employee assured me it would play DVDs and CDs. After inserting DVDs and CDs into this device I could not get any to play. Also very hard to hook up and download software from included disk.

Unreliable out of the box
I've been in tech for 48 years and this is the flakiest and most poorly constructed DVD writer I've ever used. Also be aware that Staples isn't trustworthy on pricing. I happened to go online to see what they had available in my local store. This was the only drive they had and on line it was $35.99 for 30 minute pickup. Frustrating to the Nth Degree
The USB didn't work with my laptop; no display on the screen. The C plug allowed a screen display BUT it doesn't stay plugged in securely. The plug into the back of the tray come out too easily and the button push to open the tray however slowly I press it doesn't open reliably. I will be returning it soon.

Worked partially
The external CD/DVD drive does not play music and requires a special download to play a DVD. It opened and shut with a push of the button but the CD holder kept catching on opening and did not always close fully. I needed to do assist it so it would work properly. Verbatim External USB CD/DVD
Don't wase yout time purchasing this. The USB cord is so loose that it fallo out of the unit the software CD will not boot and the tray will not stay closed. Returned it for another and same results. JUNK

Not for non-techies
It works. Not sure how to use it consistently because I installed it on my laptop which I’m not familiar with which makesthe manual is online in small print. I’m guessing it works great I just need an instruction book that I can flip through and go back-and-forth for reviewing instead of all this online stuff.
