The compass is easy to use for what I need. I'm not a student I'm 79 and just needed to do a simple craft. It worked great.
Tom did a fantastic job in getting my computer up and running correctly. He's very knowledgeable and has a lot of patience.

To not buy, will break!
Broke in less than 1 week. The arms are made out of cheap plastic that will break if you breath on them.

Meh.... It works well
Sturdy resin body. The threaded gaping device has a coarse thread that opens quickly. What I bought this for was its ability to use toothpicks as points instead of the metal and graphite points; toothpicks don't damage or scar delicate surfaces such as a computer screen.

Breaks too easily
I read a negative review before buying these and thought to myself, "they can't be that bad". I bought 10 of these to use in a university geometry class. They appear sturdy at first, but I had two of my students break the leg that holds the carbon tip simply by using the compass as intended. Quality has declined
I bought a Staedtler compass of high quality about 35 years ago. It served me well over the years but I managed to misplace it. Their current model is not up to their former standards. The pencil lead could not be adequately secured. I'm headed to town today. I think I'll just return it. In the meantime it is handy for picking up hors d'oeuvres.

The plastic theads on the adjusting screw don't hold the setting. Impossible to draw a circle. It's a piece of garage that looks pretty in the package

Used a different compass but keeps on moving. This spring bow compass was fixed once you set the measurement.
