Jewel Cases do the job.
I got these round cases after years of frustrations with the "typical" square hard plastic cases; which were always separating/breaking at the "hinge". These round cases are doing a good job storing DVD's, so far.

would’ve preferred the standard quasi-square transparent type

You had at least 1 item of the standard quasi-square transparent/non-colored type (which also looked thick enought to allow for the attachment of a label on the side—which for me is preferable to the slim cases). Unbreakable jewel cases
These are like the standard jewel cases - only being made of polythylene are unbreakable. They may deform on exposure to high temperature.

Why I like these: They're low profile, virtually impossible to break, dust proof and seemingly waterproof. In 8.5 point Calibri text, I can print a list of 26 tracks that tapes to the back of the case – all the info I need for each disc.

The price is good for these packaged cd cases. We share recordings and mail the cd cases easily with this product. (The red, white and green cases are great for Christmastime recordings!)

Great product
I have been using the Poly Disc Cases for several years. They are durable and protect the CD's from damage in shipment while allowing reading of the label without opening the case. The spindle lock works well and releases easily when removing the CD from the case. The cover lock closes securely and stays closed until manually opened. Great product.
