My Favorite Pen
I love the rich color and the medium point. It is easy to see on different color envelopes and documents. I always know which notes are mine. They also come in teal and I have bought 10 packs of refills for years as the pens keep going!

Pentel Retractable medium pt. pens
It is difficult to get these pens started when new. Once ink starts to flow it does not flow smoothly with skips in the writing. At other times the writing is blotchy. Pen works best if held at an absolute 45 degree angle, and performs poorly at other angles. I do not recommend this product.

Returned the day I purchased them.
The part you click with flew off the pen the first time I depressed it. I returned them right away. I also bought a gold one. Not good quality compared to my older Pentels.

Writing Instrument Heritage
Pentel originated as a manufacturer of technical writing instruments and mechanical pencils. They were not simply something to scribble with.
I was hesitant as it looked as though Pentel was joining the circus of "make pens cheaper" crowd but was pleasantly surprised at the characteristics of the Pentel gel pens for actual writing.

Smearing has Improved
Smearing has improved so that I don't have to wait so long for drying in order to avoid immediate smudging so that I can con't handling my paper other ways. This product is GEL ink (or oil) which provides smooth gliding while writing (hence, without me having to exert prolonged nervous pressure) & keeps up w/my writing style even if I sketch in a quick little image.

Pens so good I brought them back to France
Last year when I was in the US I picked up a 5 pack of these pens and brought them back to my to my winter residence in France. There, my son is a Principal and his wife is an elementary school teacher. They both "borrowed and never returned" one pen each and loved them so much they asked me to buy more when I went back to the US again. I did, except Staples no longer...
