they are plastic and knives i have not had time to count them but the box was in great shape. i'm guessing this because i have never used a heavy weight plastic knife but they do feel like a medium weight knife. also the color is more of a very dark blue when held to a bright light but this did not ruin the cutting experience.

They are heavy duty
Dixie products are all tuff and strong. They truly are the next best things compared to using real silverware and plates. Not only do I use them at work but also at home.
