Good Drive with No Support
The drive performs well and the included software for burning DVDs is quite intuitive and efficient. The downfall is that ASUS does not seem to support this drive or, once past registration, even acknowledge that it exists. At one point exploring their site one has to pick the product type from drop down menus. If you want information past that point you are sunk since ...

Warning!!!
I used the writer one time & a lot later I tried to use it again but it wouldn't work. I've been working with ASUS but it looks like I'm going to be sending it to them for warranty service. I would not buy a BW-16D1X-U the cost is to much for one time use!

I found the flyer disappointing as well as the Asus online support. At first the player worked a limited extent, but after following support advice it does not work at all.

Great Product
Built well, just plugged it in and Windows 11 picked it up straight away and it has written every disk I have thrown at it.

Don't waste your money!
Worst cd-rom out there! Cannot play movies and will NOT autostart to play anything! Truly lousy machine! Also, support for this product online is virtually nonexistent! I couldn't locate any assistance for this product on their website!

If it does meet requirements, please ensure the computer is running with the most current Windows version and the chipset driver is up to date. Additionally, if Windows Media Player application will not read movies, the file format is not supported by Windows Media Player. If this is the case, we recommend installing a third-party decoder software that supports the media's file format. Excellent Blu-Ray/DVD Writer
I bought this a couple of months ago to add Blu Ray/DVD ability to my computer. There is no room for an internal device, so I bought this external one. Let me say that this drive has exceeded all of my expectations with it's speed and quality. Best thing is that I can use it with both my PC and Mac. Nice looking Blu-ray Drive
Drive is great. My only issue I've had is the on/off switch located in the back. The design is not great and it take more than a little effort to slide it from off to on and vise versa. I have not used it yet to burn any disks but will do so in the near future. Drive is a little big, but looks good on the desktop.

The error message can possibly be related to a Windows update. If a recent update was installed, you can try to do a System Restore in order to revert the system to the last known good configuration when the optical drive was working properly, or update the DVD software you are using.
