Worst Product for the price!!!
Do not buy this . After a year it will randomly go out. I am having a constant issue with this crappy drive disconnecting and connecting. Save your money.

Ridiculously slow, maybe broken, no repair app?
Windows first told me there were errors.A couple of days later, WD Utilities App too. I can see my files but the quck and complete tests are failing. I bough the My Vook 8TB 6 months ago, and has been sitting on my desk since then.
Now what? There is no repair app? You can run diagnostics but what for, besides to jump ship and throw it out?

Best Investment for Peace of Mind
I purchased this external drive for backups of important files, documents, videos, music, and programs in April 2020. It's now June 2024 and it's working fine. I have been copying files to and from this drive every day for 4 years and I am very pleased with its performance. I have used it several times to recover my system. If and when it ever fails, I will buy another....

What happened to me. My Book Desktop products.
If you decide to order any of the My Book Desktop products. Also make sure you purchase a extra power supply. I thought that WD would send a replacement and all I received was a request for the model info and that would look into this situation. I had to purchase power supply's and now I am looking for replacement drives.

Good Product But Lacked Instructions
Great little unit but instructions are basically nonexistent. I downloaded several WD apps from the manufacturer's website, then downloaded Acronis True Image and got it to work. It's really easy backups from here on in.

Reliable as a Camry
I just wanted to drop a note about the Western Digital MyBook 4 TB drive. I’m going to purchase a new MyBook, even though my 13 yr old one is still going strong. Regret I bought this
All I wanted was a simple USB drive that I could attach to a NAS or any PC. Instead I ended up with a drive that requires special drivers on my Windows 11 PC and is not recognized by my NAS. No other USB drive that I own has these issues

Unreliable as data backup
After only 4 months, the drive failed and after running the windows 'scan and repair' it lost all the data. Data backup is it's whole job so I would have been better off not having this. Sorely disappointed and frustrated with everything I lost.

There can a few causes due to which the drive has stopped working. Such causes include the faulty USB port of the drive or the computer, faulty USB cable of the drive or the drive itself may not be getting enough power to spin up and register on the computer to show up. Unsafe ejection of the drive during any read or write operation can also result in the corruption of the drive's partition. Best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend avoiding USB hubs for external hard drives and therefore connect the drive directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. Works perfectly
Although my My Book did not come with the easy setup card, I called and was able to get help setting up my new WD Book. I have had my previous WD backup Book for about 10 years, but it was no longer backing up, but definitely got my money's worth on that drive.

Working Great With MacOS Time Machine
I have 3 of these (14TB) running as Time Machine targets for about 2.5 years. Time Machine takes a backup once an hour, rotating through the drives. I've never had any problems. I do wish they had an activity light, though.
Note: In order to be used with Time Machine, these MUST be formatted as HFS+ (NOT Fat32 or ExFat). Only takes a few minutes.

DO NOT BUY
Yes the negative reviews are correct, DO NOT BUY. I used it twice, and when trying to access my data, the thing isnt working. It doesnt open in my computer, it doesnt allow me to do anything nor access my data, now I have to go pay a third party company to recover my data.

Maybe there is a better brand.
It worked until it did not. Failed about a month after the end of the warranty. I bought another one just because I was too busy to find a better one.

Unstable. Needs external shock absorber
Fast and easily connected. Serious problem: easily knocked over when standing vertically. There should be vents on the sides too. The drive should come with an external shock absorber las in the Rugged series.
