I already had 2 other seagate drives (2 TB) but photography files take up a lot of space.
By plugging my original two drives into the new one I am using only one usb port (so I can leave them all in at the same time). I also split the 8TB into a 4 and 2 - 2TB drives.
Works as well as the older seagate drives but I expected that.

Since I just purchased this a few days ago, I can't honestly evaluate its long-term reliability. My one issue so far is that my computer won't boot while it's connected. Not being savvy enough, I'll have to go to a computer service to modify my BIOS, according to their website. In the meantime, I just have to remember to disconnect it before restarting every day.

Just got it - haven't used it
Plugged it in - took a few minutes to set itself up on the PC. When it came up it was easy to rename. All looks good so far. Using it to save about 85 digitized VHS home video cassettes. Then will back up other types of files on 3 smaller portable hard drives.

I was looking for something with more TB so this one item that has 8 TB works for what I needed in having a back up for "all" my files whether it's for my documents, photo's and music.
I would highly recommend this for the home, and, for the office, just to have it for a back up of all your files, the main reason I made this purchase is just in case my desktop computer...
