The drawer is excellent for small items and the back compartment is the right height to hold pens.

Perfect litle compartment
Holds my folders nice in place, my desk looks way more organized, the little drawer fits a good amount of small things like erasers, lead, whiteout, and there's a lot of space for a lot of pens/scissors. We got 3 and my employees and I love it.
