Turn Back Now
I had a hard time setting up this drive when I first got it a couple years ago. I should've respected the red flags and got another device. Now here I am trying to overnight a Samsung T7 to save my PSD file I need to finsih and submit by Tuesday.
My final straw: hard drive mounts and dismounts on its own accord and has corrupted my files as I bought the drive to work ...

Theeee Perfect Back-up drive
My new WD My Passport 5TB USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive Black is exactly what I was looking for. I have 2 others. This one is more compact much smaller but higher capacity. A bit pricy but worth it for its size and convenience. On more reason I am a loyal Staples customer. Thank YOU Staples for asking for feedback.

Newer doesn't mean better
I'm a photographer, so I need additional backup for my images. This device backs up like I need it to, but when I open it, I cannot see the images. All I can see in the file is a jpeg icon. When I'm looking for an image, I need to be able to find it quickly. I don't have time to open every single icon to see if that's the image I'm looking for. Your older product t...

Smaller 5TB hard drive
It is much smaller than the desktop or tall version of external hard drive and it take up less space on my desk which is great. No plug in cable required. It come with only one cable for it to connect to my Mac computer.

Hello, We're sorry to hear about your experience with WD My Passport External Hard Drive and appreciate your time for providing the review. There can a few causes due to which the drive has stopped working. Such causes include the faulty USB port of the drive or the computer, faulty USB cable of the drive or the drive itself may not be getting enough power to spin up and register on the computer to show up. Unsafe ejection of the drive during any read or write operation can also result in the corruption of the drive's partition. Best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend avoiding USB hubs for external hard drives and therefore connect the drive directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. We have placed a few helpful links below providing more information for your convenience. Ridculously easy, fast and reliable drive
I have had my 5 TB Passport USB drive for 4 years, and no issues whatsoever. I have used WD drives for probably 20 years, and they have always proven to be the most reliable HDD around. I question the validity of the negative reviews. I have yet to get a bad WD drive. They are simply plug-n-play. Works every time. The only thing I would like to see improvement on is the...

Good impression!
This is the second WD My Passport I bought a few months ago. The case is more comfortable to grasp (compared with the previous design), and the texture is good-looking. The actual capacity is 3.63 TB, which should be enough for long-term backup of my videos, docs, photos, etc. It is somewhat disappointing to find that I can't decrypt the drive on Android devices. Easy to use
Works fine out of the box. Comes with backup software but was immediately recognized by Acronis True Image for WD so installation was not required.
