Yoga-to-Go Helps Clients Stay Fit and Stress-Free
With so much on all of our to-do lists, who has the time to relax and de-stress? That’s where Barbara Davison and her Yoga-to-Go business come in. Barbara, a runner-up in our Make Your Idea Happen contest, will go wherever her clients are, whenever they need her, and will make sure they’re making time to work out and take care of themselves.
The Fort Lauderdale–based business is still in its early stages, but Barbara knows she’s providing a great service for those who can’t break away or devote a lot of time to fitness. We caught up with her to learn more about her plans to make more happen.
Tell us a little about your business: What gave you the idea?
Yoga-on-the-Go brings yoga to you for the ultimate convenience. It can be difficult to take time out of our busy schedules to motivate ourselves to relax or exercise. I can bring this service to you — whenever, wherever and for whomever. My business offers spirit and goodwill straight to your desk, office or home!
What challenges you the most?
My biggest challenge is convincing others that they deserve to be well and happy. I choose to lead by example and show evidence of how these types of services have helped others.
How do you define success? How will you know when you’ve achieved it?
I would define success as seeing any type of improvement in my clients and myself. I will know that I have achieved this once my appointment book is full of repeat customers, and I’ll need to hire more staff to accommodate everyone.
What’s your secret for making more happen?
I make more happen by simply writing down the goals I’d like to achieve and what steps I think are necessary to accomplish them. Then I ask myself, “What else is possible?” Sometimes it’s just that easy.
What are your favorite marketing channels for getting the word out about your business?
Social media is such a popular marketing channel right now. It’s mostly free and has direct communication with specific communities. In addition, having a Web site that’s easy to navigate and reaches my main demographic is vital. Networking is huge. I tell myself that I’m networking and representing my brand every time I leave my house.
Do you have a mentor?
My good friend Brittany Pruneau is my mentor. She started her own business and has been dedicated every day to making it a success. When I need advice or help on a particular matter, she listens and asks questions that guide me to my own answers without any self-serving opinions. Brittany gives me support and the tools to succeed.
Is there a quote you live by? If so, what is it and who said it?
“I strongly believe that we must consciously develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. We must learn to work not just for our own individual self, family or nation, but for the benefit of all mankind.” This Dalai Lama quote has been hanging in my room for over a year, and it is one that I remind myself of often. Compassion and understanding go a long way with all relationships.
What role does Staples play in helping your business succeed?
Staples has already given me great motivation to bring my business to life. Demonstrating strong company values and sharing ideas and feedback with others provides me with many opportunities for success.
If you could go back in time to the day you decided to start your business, what would you tell yourself?
I would tell myself that my entire life experience has led to this point in time of starting my business and that I am capable of all the opportunities and challenges that I face. Also, I am never alone in this venture, because I always have the support of my family and friends. Just go for it!
