    The 50' CAT6 cable works great for my purposes. In terms of speed, I get about the same upload/download speed as using WIFI (the distance is different though since I could not route the CAT6 cable in a straight line to the source. Using WIFI, i'm only about 15ft from the source) The modem is on the first floor, computer on the second. My desktop does not have WIFI, so this worked just fine. I don't know if there is any difference in speed between the CAT6 and the CAT5 of this length, but I went with the CAT6 since it was only a little more expensive, and it boasted 2X speed compared to CAT5.

    Had to install on long run. Installed and cable didn't work. Purchased second cable, made sure it worked before running the line. So recommend being sure cable works before installing

                    This cable would work perfectly for that! Industry standards have changed, so that ethernet cables are now called networking or patch cables!
