Wash off tough stains easily and remove baked-on food particles by doing dishes with nylon sponges. Sponges are essential accessories for home and restaurant kitchens. They are excellent alternatives to dish cloths and better suited for scouring cookware. Their abrasive surfaces clean dirt, grime, and grease. Staples® carries a good selection of cleaning supplies made of nylon and other materials.

Enjoy the Gentle Scrubbing Action of Nylon Sponges
Nylon is a synthetic thermoplastic material that is strong and highly resilient. It is just as effective for cleaning dishes as other commonly used materials for kitchen sponges. A nylon scrubber sponge is softer than steel wool and less absorbent than cellulose sponges. While it can serve as a general-purpose cleaning tool, it is primarily a gentle scrubber. This cleaning tools are ideal for cleaning non-stick cookware and any surface that scratches easily. Nylon sponge pads can thoroughly clean these fragile materials without scoring them. While they are not very absorbent, these sponges, like microfiber sponges, have considerable capacity to soak up liquid soaps.

Choose From Different Types of Nylon Sponges
A nylon scrubber can come in a round or oval shape made to look like a spongy mass. The most common form for this type of sponge is a soap pad. Nylon pads are square or rectangular. Flat, thin soap pads are easier to squeeze and use to scrub hard-to-reach areas. To improve absorbency, some dish pads combine foam with nylon. The upper nylon layer is the scrubbing surface while the lower and wider foam layer absorbs liquids. A cleaning pad may also have a core foam layer sandwiched between two outer layers of nylon. The foam center gives the scrubber a semi-rigid heft and makes it easier to hold.

A nylon scrubber can come as a dishwashing brush. In this form, it usually has a round plastic handle and soft, durable nylon bristles. Some dish brushes have soap-dispensing units built into their handles. This design solves the low absorbency issue of nylon by directly connecting the soap reservoir to the bristles. The brush squirts liquid detergents with a gentle squeeze and makes it possible to do dishes without frequently reaching for a soap bottle.

What Surfaces Can You Clean With Nylon Sponges?
The soft synthetic fibers of nylon kitchen sponges are perfect for preserving the Teflon™ coating of non-stick pots and pans. They gently scrub kitchen appliances and cookware with chrome, stainless steel, copper, and anodized finishes. Nylon pads can also clean glass, crystal, ceramic, china, and porcelain without scratching.

What Is the Benefit of Buying Nylon Sponges in Different Colors?
This is necessary for developing a color code system for sponges. Assigning different colored sponges to different cleaning tasks helps prevent cross-contamination. Restaurants use different colors of sponges to distinguish between dish pads, countertop wipers, and scrubbers.

Is It Safe to Disinfect Nylon Sponges in a Microwave?
No. Nylon is a thermoplastic material that quickly degrades when exposed to high heat. Tossing a nylon kitchen sponge in a microwave can cause it to melt and give off chemical fumes. Nylon pads with foam cores are also not microwave-safe.
