Network
A group of interconnected computers that can share data, files, and with the respective addition of a cable/DSL router and printer server, high–speed Internet access and a printer. The most common business or home network is a LAN, local area network, in which the networked computers are in the same building, and the most common networking methods are Ethernet, wireless, and phone line.
Network adapter
A circuit board that allows a PC or laptop to be connected to a network of other PCs. Some can also be used for connecting the latest, high–speed modems (e.g., external DSL or cable modems) to your computer.
Network bridge
Simplifies the configuration and setup of home networks that use mixed connections by linking the different types of networks together.
Network card
A circuit board that allows a notebook and laptop computers to be connected to a network of other PCs. The result is that files, software, Internet connections, and printers can be accessed and used by multiple people.

Noise
A disturbance in the frequency of electrical power that can be caused by generators, radio transmitters, and lightning. Unless a computer is plugged into a surge protector, noise can cause errors or glitches in its executable programs and data files.
