Allows you to use an external telephone answering device (TAD) on the fax phone line, provided it is plugged into the EXT. jack in the back of the fax machine. Incoming phone calls can then be recorded and saved.
Task manager
Provides you with useful computer performance and allows you to terminate inactive programs. You can also opt for a reporting mechanism that best suits your specific requirements.
Task-focused design
Allows you to view your Windows options as associated with your current task. For example, if you are creating a Word document, a dynamic menu appears that lists the appropriate tasks, such as cut, paste, and copy, for the Word document.
Taskbar grouping
The different files you have open group according to the type of application they are, keeping your taskbar clean and organized.
Receives and retains phone messages. Some fax and multifunction machines have a TAD, which saves on the need for a separate answering machine.
Telephone headsets
Headsets prevent neck strain caused by holding the phone with your shoulder and ear. Used by executives, salespeople, or call center workers. When purchasing a headset, make sure you have a phone that is headset compatible.
TFT Standard
Thin Film Transistor. A type of flat–panel LCD that does not emit radiation, a TFT consumes less energy and offers the best resolution of all LCD screens. Also called an active matrix LCD.
Thermal prints
A thermal printer prints text or images by using heat (rather than a laser or a jet of ink) to transfer an image to a page. Thermal printing is used by some label printers and fax machines and usually causes the final printed material to curl. Thermal printers do not require ink or toner cartridges.
Throat depth
The distance from the edge of the paper to the point where the staple is driven into the paper.
Throat size
The throat is the opening through which papers (or other materials to be disposed of) are fed into a shredder. The larger the throat size, the more material can be fed into at one time.
Tilt lock
Stops the chair from tilting after it has been adjusted.
Time/date stamp
A feature of digital answering machines that records exactly when a message is left.
Toner
Used by laser and LED fax machines to create printouts. Comes in replaceable cartridges.
Toner cartridge
A single unit where the toner and imaging drum are housed inside a plastic case. Used by laser printers, fax machines, and low–end copiers. Recycled (or "remanufactured") cartridges are available for most machines and are an environmentally sound option.
Transmission speed
The speed with which faxes can be sent. Most fax machines send at speeds between 9,600 bits per second (bps) and 14,400 bps. Faxing at 9,600 bps takes 15 to 60 seconds per page. Some fax machines send at 14,400 bps, cutting the transmission time for a single page to between six and 10 seconds. Other models can send at 33,000 (about 3 pages per second).
Transmissive
An overhead projector that has its light source at its base, beneath the stage where the transparency is placed.
Tri-outlet adapters
Plugs into any two–line jack to give you separate outlets for each line, plus an outlet that combines both lines. They can be used to connect a two–line phone to a fax machine, answering system, or to a modem to operate on an individual line.
Triple-wall construction
A storage box/drawer that has walls made of three–ply corrugated fiberboard.
Two-line adapters
Let you join two lines from separate jacks to use a two–line phone or answering system.
