Using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, scanners can read printed text and transfer it to a computer. This eliminates the need for manual data entry.
Offline files and folders
Access to files and folders on a network share when disconnected from the server.
Opacity
Describes how transparent the paper is. The higher the opacity, the less visible the text is from the backside.
Open bookcases
Features between two and seven open shelves for easy access to their contents. Often, the shelves can be adjusted.
Operating system (computers)
The central program on a computer that allows all of the input, output and other tasks to take place. Can be thought of as the "brains" of the computer. Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers.
Operating system (handhelds)
Handhelds run on either a Palm® or Microsoft–based (Windows CE®) operating system. An operating system is the central program that allows users to run and access the most basic functions of the handheld.
Optical drive
A device that reads optical disks, such as a CD–ROM, CD–R, CD–RW, or DVD. Optical drives allow users to archive large amounts of data, create music CDs, view movies and more.
Optical zoom
Digital cameras have both optical and digital zoom. Optical zoom actually magnifies the image, while digital zoom simply grabs an array of pixels in the middle of the image and processes them to make it look enlarged. For this reason, optical zoom produces a truer enlarged image.
Out-of-paper reception
Saves an incoming fax in memory until the paper tray is refilled.
