It is designed to help customers find products sold by Staples meeting specific environmental features. The criteria for Eco-ID were developed based on internal expertise and publicly available guidance developed by credible third-party organizations. Specific attributes a given product meets to qualify for the Eco-ID mark are identified in the product details or specifications. Staples depends on supplier provided information to determine qualifying products. For USDA Certified Biobased products that achieve a minimum of 30% bio-based content. Varies by product category. Most products need to meet 30% post-consumer content, but a few categories allow 20% or 25% post-consumer content. Some product categories also require additional features to be present. For example, binders must have 30% post-consumer content and be made with PVC-free plastic, calculators must contain 25% post-consumer plastic and be solar powered. Ink and toner cartridges with recycled content do not qualify for Eco-ID unless they are high yield or remanufactured.
