Eco-conscious product criteria

Staples offers a large assortment of products with environmental features, some of which are "industry standard." Certain products have been specifically called out for meeting a higher standard for environmental performance. You can find the criteria for these "eco-conscious" products below.

Recycled content:

Eco-conscious products contain 30% post-consumer recycled content or more.

Third-party standards and certifications:

Other environmental designs:

Recycled/Pre- and Post-Consumer Recycled

The amount of pre- and post-consumer recycled content used in a material (usually shown as a percentage). Pre-consumer recycled is waste from a manufacturing process that has been collected, processed and recycled into new materials or products before ever going to market. Post-consumer recycled is material that has completed its life cycle as a consumer product before being collected, processed and recycled into new materials or products. Paper used by an office and then recycled is considered a post-consumer material.

Scientific Certification Systems Indoor Advantage/Indoor Advantage Gold

Scientific Certification Systems provides third-party certification that products meet rigorous indoor air-quality standards. SCS Indoor Advantage is designed for non-flooring products that are intended for use within an enclosed indoor environment, including wall coverings, insulation, systems furniture, seating, casework and paints.
