Preserve paper documents by digitizing them with a Xerox™ scanner. In addition to protecting against loss and damage, scanning digital copies of documents also makes it possible to edit them on a computer and send them via email. Xerox makes different types and sizes of document scanners for home, office, and industrial users. Search through the large inventory of essential office equipment on Staples® to find a good selection of scanners from Xerox.

Choose from Different Types of Xerox Document Scanners
This brand makes both flatbed and sheet-fed document scanning machines. A flatbed model has a moving scan head and a glass surface that holds the paper or film users need to scan. In a sheet-fed unit, it's the scanning material that moves while the scan head is stationary. Sheet-fed models usually take up less space than comparable flatbed models and are better suited for scanning multipage documents.

A flatbed unit is ideal for the low-volume scanning needs of home and small office users. Since the scanning material remains stationary on its bed, this type is also better for photos, films, slides, and easily damaged materials. Besides scanning method, another way to classify these office machines is by size. Most of Xerox's models are desktop units. However, there are also travel and portable models that are lighter and perfect for road warriors and kiosks.

Key Features to Consider When Selecting a Xerox Scanner
A scanning machine can only take papers of certain sizes. Before ordering one, make sure to note the minimum and maximum paper sizes the unit accepts. Some scanners can only handle light and medium-weight (16-24 pound) paper, others can scan documents printed on heavyweight (28-30 pound) paper. Xerox offers models that can digitize text printed on cardstock and thicker sheets (up to 100 pounds).

Choose a duplex scanner if you routinely scan double-sided pages. To further save time when scanning multipage documents, find a model with an automatic document feeder (ADF). This automatically feeds the machine with new pages. Note that scanners' ADF capacities vary from less than 50 pages to over 100 pages.

Scanning speed is another important feature to consider, especially for shared machines in large, busy offices. Overall speed also depends on resolution (measured in dpi or dots per inch) and whether the machine is scanning one or both sides. Look for a model rated at 25 ppm (pages per minute) for a small office. Mid-sized or large offices need scanners that can deliver scans at 40 ppm or faster.

What Kind of Imaging Sensors Do Xerox Scanners Have?
The brand uses Contact Image Sensor (CIS) for its portable and entry-level models and Charge Coupled Device (CCD) for the rest of its scanner lineup. A CIS sensor consumes less power, but a CCD delivers better image quality.

Should You Get a Xerox Scanner or an All-in-One Printer?
While an all-in-one printer can also scan documents, it usually offers basic scanning functions. opt for a dedicated scanner to enjoy advanced features such as one-touch scanning to multiple word processing and image editing software.

Is Duty Cycle Important When Choosing a Xerox Document Scanner?
Yes. The daily duty cycle of a scanner describes the maximum number of pages it can handle every day at its rated scan quality. To avoid damaging the unit, choose a model with a daily duty cycle that's higher than the average number of pages currently scanned every day at the office.
