My AT&T 2wire went out so I bought this unit figuring with all of the wireless data devices we are using and potentially going to use it would be a good choice. Well I was wrong, we bought a top of the line device and our wifi signal is weaker than the replaced 2wire unit. The only help I received was that I may need signal boosters in the house! I should of called AT&T and had them replace the 2wire unit. Still though I'm not totally done with this device I have a few other ideas that may work, and maybe I'll change my post at that point.

Comments about Netgear R6300-100NAS AC1750 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wireless AC Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Router:

It's been almost a month since i bought this router. So far it's very reliable, fast and consistent. I have 3 different routers and decom'd them after i bought this.

There are several - but minor - negatives i have for this router:
      - bulky
      - range is bit of a joke; Among the 4 routers i have, only this netgear gives me 1 bar less when i'm in the kitchen - and even when i'm about 10 feet away from it without any obstacle in the middle.
      - Easy to setup IF and ONLY IF you'd be using the defaults. But for folks like myself, i wanted custom. There are little quirks while configuring your own settings. And I saw the console hung -- and i wasn't able to use my router for ~10 mins even after 2 reboots with disconnected power cord! I'm sure i was using the latest firmware because that's the first thing I did (might be a firmware issue? I don't know, didn't happen again). Manual doesn't provide some information I needed and i had to google it.
      - Certain Intel wifi adapters are slow during the first time they connect to this router. I won't blame it to Intel because those adapters connect quickly to my other 3 routers.
      - Only few LED indicator lights. I kind of prefer to have some indicator lights to have an idea what's going on.

Again those are just minor and not a deal-breaker for me. But for other buyers, you might want to consider them.

Once i got thru all the configuration, router performance is decent. Never had to reboot since then - not even once.

On the plus side, 2 USB ports, option to turn off radio and power off switch are nice addition for me since not many routers offer these perks.

I don't expect too much for any product. I could have rated this as 5-star if they price it at ~$150-ish.

what is a compatable range extender to complement this router. & Is there any advantage to adding the 6200 adaptor to my PC that already connects wireless to my existing router

          • A:

yes, there is a great advantage. before i added the A6200 adapter to the laptop, i was getting between 30 to 50 Mbps transfer rate. adding this adapter now brings me to the 850 to 900 Mbps rate. much much faster now

          • A:

No advantage to adding a 6200 adapter to computer that already has a "g" wireless card, if its an "a" or "b" card the upgrade is worth the cost. The Netgear Universal WiFi Range Extender (WN3000RP) is an excellent choice for this router.

        • Q:

I have a Brother MFC-7840W printer that's not compatible with Apple Air Print (for my iPhone & iPad). I read that this router is Air Print compatible. Could I now connect the printer to the router (either wirelessly or USB) and print directly from my "i" devices to the Brother??
